Hear hear, these things need to be talked about so the awareness is raised and people wuill do something about it.

I have just started a blog which will have a section devoted to how many of the soft lures used for sea fishing, and fresh water fishing, have a toxic chemical make up which is released as they break down.

Unfortunately there are many tons of these lures lost by fisherment in the sea, lakes and rivers every year.

We wouldn't need Government legislation with regard to CO & C02 emissions if we could just get people to clean up their act.

There was a story recently about a young New Zealand couple who made a concerted effort to not throw away any non-recycleable rubbish for a year. At the end of the year they had less than 1/2 a household garbage bin on rubbish to dispose of.

It can be done if we think harder about what we are doing.

I live in Washington DC and find it amazing, how few people know about this critical issue. When I learned of the Pacific Gyre I was so horrified I totally changed career paths. We started a USELESS, a company with the intention of getting people engaged in responsible consumerism. We are driven by the belief that each and every one of our actions can help bring about positive lasting change to people all around the world. USELESS is dedicated to reducing the impacts of irresponsible consumerism, especially climate change, and helping those in the developing world who lack the basic requirements of healthy lives, such as clean drinking water and sanitation. Check us out at USELESS.org. Would love to hear any feedback.
