Rubbing your hands in lemon juice also helps.

If you have used coffee grounds, rub your hands with it.

To all,

Many of your suggestions do work but I just wanted to clarify that the original question of this post was: why rubbing your hands on steel helps to get rid of the garlic smell.

Thanks

I use Kitchen Hands ( Hand soap) which we get in any Grocery store , it has lemon in it which remove all  odors. It is also antibacterial.

I bet rubbing some tooth paste on your hands would work.

I will give the lemon trick a try the next time I cut garlic.  Thanks for all of the ideas.

The metal must neutralize it also or the spoon or faucet would smell. I think cold water works just as well with some lime juice in it.

I would recommend you to wear gloves before dealing garlic. It is simpler, IMO.  Smiley
Thanks for your tips,

What I normally do is wash my hands with soap and use alcohol to subdue the smell.

I will try rubbing my hands on stainless steel.  I use garlic everyday in cooking Smiley

Just rub your hands with any stainless steel utensil and the smell will be gone. No stainless steel? Try rubbing baking soda or salt in your hands. That should work equally as well.   Grin

Hydrogen peroxide is the most effective way to remove the odor from the mouth (though unfortunately it doesn't help the odor of metabolites from the lungs). Is it the most effective for skin too?

Lemon certainly works on your hands but any suggestions on how to lose the garlic smell on your breath?

I do know that stainless steel reacts with the odor causing compound in garlic and that reaction removes the smell. Any stainless steel will do the trick so don't waste your money on those gadgets
