I watched Michael make these on the webcast and was surprised how easy it was to make them. I always thought donuts were hard to make!
I made them this weekend and they were delish. Thanks for such a cool site and recipes too.

Believe it or not, I have tried making donuts and they always come out.... well, hard. Not light and yummy like in the store. But I have tried to make super healthy donuts which I suppose just doesn't fly.

Gradually beat the sugar into  the eggs.
Beat in the shortening (or butter)
sift together the dry ingredients and add to the sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition.
Chill the dough 30 minutes to an hour.
Turn the dough out onto a floured pastry cloth on a board and knead 3-4 times until the dough forms a ball.
Divide the dough in half.
Roll each half out to 1/3 inch thick.
Cut with a sharp do-nut cutter.
Fry at 350 degrees until golden.
