Saltwater Taffy (Read 10484 times)

Three years ago, on the first try, I made the perfect taffy with the recipe on this site. I liked it so much that I tried again, but it didn't work. and again. and again. and then I gave up. The taffy never stays soft, I pour it out and it goes all hard and crunchy in a matter of seconds [or maybe minutes, i forgot]. What went wrong? I know I didn't leave it too long before I started pulling it, and I know it wasn't the weather. . . so any ideas?

Ok maybe it was the weather.  I have never made taffy but i have bought some before and it melted because it was tooo hot.  I am just wondering but did you have the a/c on or was it really cold outside.
Maybe that is why or maybe you didnt heat up your oven or what ever you cook it in hot enough
I hope i helped

I do the same thing. What I do, which it works pretty good, is to soak it in hot water and stop for about an hour.

Make sure the air is not too cold, and make sure you are liberal with the "salt" water which helps it stay stretchy.

I never really understood the attraction of saltwater taffy - sweet and salty just don't work together for me.
