Layla....usually with older ovens the heat tends to cook hotter quicker than the desired time.  If that makes sense..LOL

Try cooking the brownies a bit less time than recommended and see what the does...OR

Have you checked where the rack is in the overn.  If too close to the burner that will definately crisp those edges quicker.

I agree about the older oven thing! My brownies used to do the same as Layla's.

Since then, we have purchased a new oven (not just for better brownies though!) and have noticed a huge difference in the evenness of how are food is baked.

I guess the oven salesman knew what he was talking about!

Warm milk, a bit of honey and if it's only for adults - a few drops of rum.

Hate to say it Lala, but perhaps changing the old oven is your only option.

I'd just be honest, tell your friends sorry about the burnt edges, cut the edge's off, and enjoy. Or you could buy a new pair of glasses, I dont know what that has to do with your brownies, but what ever. Smiley

I like the burnt edges better than the rest. Maybe you could cut off the edges and then cook the rest for a bit longer. ha! ha!
