I always put my onions in the fridge so that it is ready when I have to use it..I just prevent it from getting wet so it does not mess up the fridge..

keep them in the refrigerator before you slice into them the juices won't be so juicy expelling the fumes that irritate your eyes, also: use very sharp knife, slice in half and run under cold water to get rid of the juices. If all else fails then put clear goggles over your eyes to keep the fumes away. I have a small little black and decker chopper that works great for onions, carrots, nuts, chocolate and such! (I also love making my homemade tartar sauce in it too)

Didn't read the whole thread but isn't there also something about your tear glands and eating or chewing something(I think it's bread) stops you tearing when chopping onions. Maybe someone can clarify this.

I light always 1 candle / tea warmer candle and put them close to my workplace, before I cut onions, and no tear accompanies my work. Great tip - even try out and be aroused enthusiasm.

Greetings Marianne

Thank you for this. I've heard some "tricks" in my time about how to cut onions without crying in my time like running the onion under water!

Yes, this is what i always do. I always cut the root and hold the onion under ice-cold water for a minute or two. I never dropped a tear cutting onions again.
