Maybe it's just a myth, my mom told me to puncture one onion at knife point when cutting unions ...

One can easily apply these ideas when begins to cut onions. I have tried all these methods and found that cold water tips works well.

Maybe it's just me, but why get near the onion when you're cutting it? I've saved many a tear by simply chopping at arms' length, also keeping my head away from the "airspace" above the cutting board.

Eh? Cheesy

I've tried keeping a medium size bowl filled with just cold water next to where I'm cutting helps keep the tears away! I can't remember where I heard this, but it works for me

let the water run from the tap and cut the onion under the running water. Roll Eyes

You could also wash the onion first before chopping it.
