Exactly, I am glad somebody backed me up with the same info to use the full flavor coke and not the diet variety. It has to be the full strength version and not watered down diet.

I do not drink coke much anymore. I would say it has been many months since I drank one. This kind of tenderizing is not for everyone of course.
The coffee used was just plain ol' Folgers brand on the jambalaya. Depends on how strong of a flavor boost a person wants by making the pot strong or not. The dish was chicken and not the shrimp variety, I don't do shrimp or other shellfish. Matter again of personal taste or even allergies.

The level of experimenting would depend on the person. I liked the different tastes that came from people who grew up in different regions and learned these tips passed down from family.

Using soft drinks and coffee in the preparation of food!!That sounds interesting.I have never heard of that in my life but i may assume that the food prepared by this technique is definitely going to be excellent, yummy and delicious.I think any other recipe using this technique would really be appreciated.

I've had Coca Cola marinated steak from a restaurant before and wanted to try to do it at home. Now I'm motivated!

I wonder if getting the bottled stuff that uses real sugar would be better than the other stuff. Any thoughts?

A good friend of mine always makes chicken with coke.
First time I ever heard of that. But it tasted great!

And I posted a recipe for cooking duck with beer.  Very nice as well.

Never had something cooked with coffee though.

We just tried this method the other night with the coke marinade. The cut of meat was a bit tough and it helped, but I should have let it soak longer. We let the coke work on it for just about 2 hours. I then did b-b-cue the meat, I cooked it slow with no other sauce or anything.

The old coke formula worked better in years gone by, I guess you just have to let the meat stay longer as it seems it is not as strong as it used to be.

The coke syrup itself is considered a hazmat item and must be treated as such when hauled in a truck in it's pure form. Just to think we put that stuff in our stomachs..haha.

The only soda I've ever heard of being used with food is Sprite in making chicken in a dutch oven. It is very tasty.

I have heard about the coke trick to tenderize meat but have never tried it as I tend to marinate meat and leave for several hours and is just as tender.
I'll have to give it a go one of these days.  Wink

I have heard of sprite working in some dishes, I have tried it myself and it tastes fine to me. I would probably pick a different cut of meat next time I do the coke marinade. It works but you have to have something good to start with..
