Sometimes for certain dishes you would need only half or a 1/4 of an onion,so if you leave the left over for some time unused it will dry out.To keep it fresh till next time you'll need it,put on the cut-side some cooking oil or a bit of melted butter and put it in a cool place. That way when you'll need it it will be fresh so you don't have to waste another onion.

Interesting. I simply wrap it in a piece of aluminium foil and put it in the fridge over night. The next day I'm cooking with it again it's still fresh. Haven't tried leaving it over many days in the fridge though... Undecided

I normally wrap my onions in cling film then place them in a small tuppa ware box! Fresh as a daisy Smiley

I am a food photographer and during prep we use a ton of onions. We have always cut the onions placed in water in a plastic tub and keep several days looking great.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.  I've always thrown them in a ziplock but then again I have thrown away a lot of partially cut up onions because they don't stay that fresh that way

We cook portion of the onion while the rest we mix it un-cook. This is more delicious than the cooked onion.

Don't toss out any part of an onion.  Save it in zip lock boggy in the freezer.  Also don't toss out the bags or boxes that dried fruit or chips come in.  Store them in the freezer too.  The next time you see ants  place some onion and sugary/oily bag into a paper sack and roll it up to close the end.  Place the bag in the path of the ants and after 2 or 3 days, all of the ants will be dead inside the bag.

Be sure to place the bag in a spot so the dogs can't get into it.  Dogs digestive system can't tolerate onion and it will kill them.  If you use the bag that onion flavored chips come in you can use it alone.

The sugar/oil attracts the ants and the onion kills them.
